Michael and Chante at the 2009 Patient Holiday Party

On December 2nd, over 90 guests gathered at the Harkness Lounge at Yale School of Medicine to partake in the annual Patient Holiday Party, sponsored by Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven.  The Mixed Company of Yale, one of the premier a capella groups on campus, added to the festivities by singing some holiday favorites, and other well known songs.

Dr. Peter Marks, Associate Professor of Hematology at Yale, introduced The Mixed Company group and spoke with patients throughout the evening.  The Patient Holiday Party is a chance for patients to connect with one another, and to celebrate how far they have come during the past year.  Dinner was provided, as well as a raffle.

Neva Campbell is one guest that has been coming to the Patient Holiday Party for over ten years.  It serves as a wonderful reminder for her.  Two of her children, Chante 11, and Michael 6, are shown enjoying their new gifts.

Each year patients and their families gather in the Harkness Lounge, which is fully decorated in holiday cheer, to celebrate not only the approaching holiday season, but also to mark the years of survival, and all that they have overcome.
