| Closer to Free The new Smilow Cancer Hospital "Closer to Free" advertising campaign launched on New Year's Eve with the first of four commercials. We have already received wonderful response to the new spots, which you will continue to see on network and cable television over the coming months. The first two are currently available to view on the YNHH YouTube Channel.
The call to action for the campaign is the new micro-website www.closertofree.com Please visit the site and watch the new videos and interviews from Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center. Print ads for the Closer to Free campaign will run in the Wall Street Journal, Connecticut Magazine, Hartford Courant, New Haven Register, and a few other weekly newspaper groups. Thank you to all the faculty and staff members who scheduled time to participate in the campaign in December.

BJ's Charitable Foundation Grant BJ's Charitable Foundation recently announced a grant of $34,950 to Yale Cancer Center for breast cancer research and treatment. This award is based on the successful program sponsored by BJ's Wholesale Club in October 2010. "Pink Ribbon" merchandise was sold in its stores throughout fifteen states. Every product marked with the BJ's Charitable Foundation Pink Ribbon Logo generated donations that were divided among National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers along the East Coast, including Yale Cancer Center ABB Foundation Grant The ABB Foundation awarded a $20,000 grant to the Yale Cancer Center Thoracic Oncology Program (TOP) to support its tumor banking efforts. This is the third donation from ABB to TOP, all resulting from the efforts of Pat Sclafani, a thymoma cancer survivor and employee of ABB. ABB, Inc. isa technology-based provider of power and automation products, systems, solutions, and services.

Deepak Narayan was awarded a 2011 Breast Cancer Alliance Exceptional Project Grant for $100K to support his work on "Autologous Breast Reconstruction Using Acellularized Cadaver Dermis and Adipose-derived Pericytes."

Funding Opportunities Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program Grants- Clinical Trial Award
Supports rapid execution of early phase clinical trials that have the potential for significant impact on prostate cancer. Studies may include evaluation of novel drugs, biologic, device, surgical procedure, rehabilitative modality, behavioral, or other intervention.
- Exploration-Hypothesis Development Award
Supports highly innovative, untested, potentially groundbreaking concepts in prostate cancer.
- Health Disparity Research Award
Supports high-impact approaches to prostate cancer health disparity research that represent new ideas and, if successful, will significantly accelerate the elimination of death and suffering from prostate cancer.
- Idea Development Award
Supports new ideas that represent innovative, high-risk/high-gain approaches to prostate cancer research and, if successful, will significantly accelerate the elimination of death and suffering from prostate cancer.
- Impact Award
Supports high-impact studies towards reducing or eliminating the problem of overtreatment of primary prostate cancer. Areas of special interest include but are not limited to active surveillance, biomarkers, improved staging, local staging, and optimal measures for follow-up and biopsy.
- Laboratory-Clinical Transition Award
Supports goal- and product-driven preclinical studies of promising lead agents to IND and/or cGMP production that may revolutionize prostate cancer clinical care.
- Population-Based Research Award
Supports high-impact approaches to prostate cancer research from the perspective of population-based studies that will, if successful, significantly accelerate the elimination of death and suffering from prostate cancer.
- Synergistic Idea Development Award
Supports new or existing partnerships between two or three independent investigators to address a central innovative question in prostate cancer that may include high risk, provided there is a potential for significant impact.
- Health Disparity Training
Supports training in prostate cancer health disparity research for individuals in the early stages of their careers.
- Physician Research Training Award
Supports training of physicians with clinical duties for careers in prostate cancer research.
- Postdoctoral Fellowship Award
Supports prostate cancer research training for talented individuals in the early stages of their careers.
A pre-application is required for all award mechanisms and must be submitted through the CDMRP eReceipt website prior to application submission. Applications must be submitted through the federal government's single-entry portal, Grants.gov.
