Yale Cancer Center Internal Grants Program Yale Cancer Center is pleased to announce the 2011 Internal Grants competitions. These grants will support innovative basic, clinical, computational, prevention/control, and translational cancer research. The primary review criteria will be scientific excellence, cancer relevance, and likelihood of the project evolving into federally funded cancer research. Members of the Cancer Center or faculty who have applied for membership are eligible to apply. Three types of grants will be awarded for one year, commencing on January 1, 2012: Pilot Grants of up to $50,000 for a specific project headed by a member of the Cancer Center. Up to eight Pilot Grants will support new individual research projects. Priority will be given to grants involving collaborations between two or more Cancer Center members. Targeted Area of Research Excellence (TARE) Awards of up to $100,000 for groups of between three and five investigators headed by a member of the Cancer Center, with the express purpose of developing a multi-investigator, basic and/or population science grant submission to the National Cancer Institute, such as a Program Project grant or Center grant. We anticipate funding up to two TARE Awards. Translational-Targeted Area of Research Excellence (T-TARE) Awards of up to $200,000 for groups of between three and five investigators headed by a member of the Cancer Center, for research with a significant translational or clinical component, with the express purpose of developing a multi-investigator grant submission to the National Cancer Institute, such as a Program Project Grant or SPORE grant. We anticipate funding up to two T-TARE Awards. Submission Deadline:
Thursday, November 10th at 4:00 p.m.
Application forms and instructions for Pilot and TARE Awards may be obtained by email from Janice Zulkeski. Other questions may be emailed to Dan DiMaio.
T-TARE Award application forms and instructions may be obtained by email from Julie Boyer. Other questions may be emailed to Roy Herbst. AACR Meeting Participation This year, the American Association of Cancer Research annual meeting will be held on March 31-April 4 in Chicago. Yale Cancer Center encourages all members of the Yale cancer research community to attend the meeting and present your research. Additionally, please remember to include your YCC affiliation in your presentation. Once you register, please let us know as we will hold a Reception for all YCC participants during the meeting.
YCC is offering limited support to offset the costs of traveling to Chicago. If you are planning to submit an abstract to the AACR Annual Meeting 4, please email Hilary Prosnitz or (203) 737-6424. The deadline for regular abstract submission on the AACR website is 5:00 PM Eastern U.S. Time on Monday, November 15, 2011. We hope you will consider presenting your research at this important event. |
Development Update One of our strategic goals at Yale Cancer Center is to equip our physicians and scientists with tools and resources to raise funds for their programs. One important way to do this is for faculty to engage with grateful patients and their families. We invite you to join us for "Insight Into Medical Philanthropy," on Friday, October 21st. This workshop provides an understanding of medical philanthropy, donor motivation, grateful patient concepts, and the donor development process.
The workshop also directly addresses the appropriate role of medical professionals in donor engagement. A light breakfast will be served at 6:30 AM, and the session will begin promptly at 7 AM in the Beaumont Room, concluding at 9:30 AM. For those of you who have clinic on Fridays, we ask if possible that you not schedule patients that day until 10 AM.
The workshop will be led by Walt Edwards, Executive VP of Advancement Resources. Advancement Resources has helped academic medical institutions throughout the nation build donor-focused programs. The workshop will provide practical advice and instruction for faculty and also offers an opportunity for productive exchanges with colleagues and with our staff in the Development Office on concerns such as HIPAA compliance, other privacy issues, and ethics. We're confident this workshop will strengthen your ability to identify and seize philanthropic opportunities and to position your program and Yale Cancer Center for fundraising success in the future. Because space is limited, please confirm your participation by emailing YCC Director of Development Peter Lamothe or by calling him at (203) 436-8554 as soon as possible. Peter is also available to answer questions about the workshop. We hope you will make the time to participate on October 21st.
