Research Summary

Dr Djekidel strives to improve current imaging techniques used in the diagnosis and followup of various cancers. He is also exploring ways to improve brain imaging in epilepsy and tourette's.

Extensive Research Description

Hybrid imaging techniques have been introduced into the clinic including SPECT-CT. Dr Djekidel is a strong proponent of appropriate utilization of these techniques and has shown the increased value in white blood cell imaging and damaged RBC imaging for splenosis evaluation. Other authors have extensively described their benefit for other applications. He is also exploring the utilization of SPECT-CT and PET-CT in Sirtex treatments. These hybrid techniques should be the mainstay for many aindications and should be approved for reimbursement (cuurently not).

He is looking into radiogenomics and radioproteomics in cancers.

His research involves novel imaging of mGluR5 using clinical PET imaging in medically refractory patients.

He is imaging changes in Tourette's patients using SPECT HMPAO.

He is a co Pi on a grant evaluating the potential for predicting lung cancer molecular subtypes using FDG PET-CT scan imaging biomarkers.
