Sherri Storms, MSN, RN-BC, CBCN
As a Nurse Coordinator in the Breast Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital, Sherri Storms, MSN, RN-BC, CBCN, meets with patients who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer and helps them to navigate and manage their care. Working closely with the various disciplines, Sherri ensures that patients are comfortable with their team, and fully understand the treatments they will receive. Although she has been in this role for just under seven years, she has over 30 years of experience in nursing and critical care and management experience.
"I started my career in oncology, and plan to finish in oncology. Working with this patient population and their families is so rewarding," said Sherri. "We follow patients throughout their care and make sure they are following up on appointments. I am still in touch with one of the first breast cancer patients I ever worked with; it's an amazing field to be able to say that."
Sherri also co-facilitates one of the Breast Cancer Support Groups available at Smilow. They recently launched a monthly patient education series where guest speakers are invited to talk on a specific area of interest for patients. This month features a discussion on genetic counseling on October 10th. Sherri commented, "I believe we have a world class team of doctors, nurses and staff here at the Breast Center, who all work together to put the needs of the patient first."
Camille Servodidio, Program Manager, Women's Oncology Services, commented, "Sherri is a consummate nursing professional and is dually certified in breast care (CBCN) and oncology nursing (OCN). She is compassionate and has the ability to be fully present as she actively listens and coordinates a personal plan of care for our breast cancer patients."
