Yale Cancer Center Medical Student Clinical Fellowship (YCC MSCF)

Our new fellowship program is a four-week immersive clinical rotation that introduces students from diverse backgrounds to the field of oncology. The program equips participants with essential skills, mentorship, and exposure to clinical and research settings, preparing them to become competitive candidates for oncology residency programs and future leaders in the field.

What are the Highlights and Goals?

Comprehensive Clinical Exposure: Hands-on experience in oncology through rotations in diverse specialties at Yale New Haven Hospital. Participatein patient care and learning about cutting-edge treatments and technologies.
Career Development and Mentorship: Engage with faculty mentors for personalized guidance, career advice, and support in pursuing oncology residency programs.
Didactic Learning: Attend weekly seminars, multidisciplinary tumor boards, and hospital lectures to enhance your clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills.
Presentation: At the conclusion of the fellowship, students present on a topic of their choosing, synthesizing knowledge gained during the month’s rotation.

Who is Eligible for the Fellowship?

Enrolled U.S. medical school students in their third or fourth year are encouraged to apply and will be chosen in the Spring of each academic year. Applicant must be in good standing at the time of application. We particularly encourage the applications of students who are members of groups underrepresented in medicine, who are the first in their families to college, who are from inner city or rural communities, or who have grown up with financial or other disadvantage.

Other Details?

• A $2,500 stipend is provided to support students during the rotation.
• The program does not currently offer housing for visiting medical students. Those approved will receive a list of housing resources to help them secure housing in New Haven.

How Do I Apply?

  1. Visit the Yale Visiting Student Scholarship Program webpage to confirm your eligibility.
  2. Complete the Scholarship Program Application:
    1. Upload a CV that includes your USMLE Step 1 and/or Step 2 completion and scores.
    2. Submit a personal statement (no longer than 300 words) in the “Short Bio” section, detailing your background, interests, and how you would benefit from this opportunity.
  3. Submit your VSLO Application: Applications will be accepted through the AAMC’s Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) system beginning in March 2025 and reviewed on a rolling basis through May 2025.
