  • 01:05virtual celebration as we celebrate
  • 01:08National Cancer Survivors Day,
  • 01:10not just for the day but for the whole
  • 01:13month of June throughout our SMILOW network
  • 01:16in our survivorship network here at Yale,
  • 01:19we are happy and have the privilege
  • 01:21of hosting our celebratory montholon
  • 01:23virtual event with lots of content
  • 01:26on our celebrations website.
  • 01:28We know there are many questions and
  • 01:30unique concerns that people have when
  • 01:31they see us in the survivorship clinic,
  • 01:33and many of these may be from what
  • 01:36they've read online or friends or
  • 01:39saw on TV for various reasons.
  • 01:41Part of what we aim to do is help clear up
  • 01:44some of those misconceptions that do exist.
  • 01:47So this year,
  • 01:48one overarching focus for events
  • 01:50will be mythbusting some of the
  • 01:53misleading information that exists on
  • 01:55topics of cancer survivorship care.
  • 01:58So we're going to be having
  • 02:00themed weeks each week of June,
  • 02:02starting this coming week for
  • 02:05National Cancer Survivors Day today,
  • 02:08June 6 and throughout the rest of the month.
  • 02:12Anne, For more information on that,
  • 02:14I'm going to pass it along
  • 02:16to Heather Studwell,
  • 02:17who's been a crucial part of
  • 02:19pulling this event together,
  • 02:20and I'll let her introduce
  • 02:21herself and take it away.
  • 02:25Thanks Devin, so starting.
  • 02:30This week today actually starts
  • 02:33the beginning of the week.

  • 02:57aryel networks and their hosted.
  • 03:00Every Tuesday by our local smilow centers and
  • 03:05then professionals from our main hospital.
  • 03:08So we thought what we would do is
  • 03:11use that platform to talk about some
  • 03:14of the more prominent survivorship
  • 03:16issues and challenges that are
  • 03:19survivorship patients face.
  • 03:21So starting this week on Tuesday,
  • 03:23that will be our first week
  • 03:26theme is exercise and strength.
  • 03:28That will be June 8th, Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
  • 03:32Our second week.
  • 03:34Will be themed sexuality,
  • 03:36intimacy and menopause.
  • 03:38And that's my loecher series is again

  • 03:45Then the following week,

  • 04:57Thanks, Heather.
  • 04:58We're really looking forward to this.
  • 05:00We're very much excited to talk about
  • 05:03myths as they relate to various issues
  • 05:06across the survivorship spectrum.
  • 05:08And I'll just leave you with one myth.
  • 05:11That is that patients with the history
  • 05:14of cancer must meet a certain length of
  • 05:17time criteria to be called a survivor.
  • 05:19That is a myth.
  • 05:21The truth is, anyone with a history of
  • 05:24cancer is considered a cancer survivor.
  • 05:26From the time of diagnosis.
  • 05:27Through the balance of his or her life.
  • 05:30But I'd also like to say that not
  • 05:32every person with a history of cancer
  • 05:34identifies with the word survivor,
  • 05:36and so I think it's just important
  • 05:37to kick off survivorship month,
  • 05:39acknowledging that an an if that
  • 05:41term doesn't resonate with you,
  • 05:43that's OK.
  • 05:43These are meant to be inclusive seminars
  • 05:47and videos and pieces of information.
  • 05:50Just saying thank you to all of you
  • 05:52for choosing smile for your care.
  • 05:55And with that I think will kick it off.
  • 06:00Well, I'm very excited for it too.
  • 06:04Happy Cancer National Cancer Survivors
  • 06:06day and survivors month for us from all
  • 06:10of us here at Smilow and
  • 06:12the survivorship network.
  • 06:15Everybody, everyone.
