May 06, 2020

Caroline Johnson, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at Yale School of Public Health and a member of Yale Cancer Center’s Cancer Microbiology Research Program, has received a four-year, $792,000 Research Scholar Grant from the American Cancer Society (ACS).

Johnson's research centers around mass spectrometry-based metabolomics to understand the role of metabolites in human health. Her primary research interest is to investigate the relationship between genetic and environmental influences, including diet, hormones, and the microbiome, in the development of colon cancer.

Johnson will use the grant to understand metabolic heterogeneity in colorectal cancer, the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women in the U.S. and the second leading cause in men.
