Ready! Set! Spin! The Greenwich Hospital Freedom Riders took part in Closer to Free

September 14, 2020

Ready! Set! Spin! The Greenwich Hospital Freedom Riders took part in Ride in the Garden in the Greenwich Hospital community garden on September 10 to support the Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Greenwich as part of Yale New Haven Health’s 10th annual Closer to Free event, which went virtual this year due to the pandemic.

Welcoming the crowd were Diane Kelly, Greenwich Hospital President; Roy Herbst, MD, PhD, Chief of Medical Oncology at Smilow Cancer Hospital; and Sung Lee, MD, Director of Medical Oncology at Greenwich Hospital. All three were among three dozen bicyclists riding for a good cause.

Equinox of Greenwich donated 10 spin bikes for the day and two spin instructors donated their time to cycle each participant through a 20-minute spin class. Greenwich Hospital exceeded all state safety requirements spacing spin bikes 12 feet apart, providing wipes for the bikes between riders, and hand sanitizer and masking until each rider began.

All the funds raised from Ride in the Garden will directly support survivorship care at Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Greenwich. To donate, visit www.rideclosertofree.org
