To the YSM Community:
In a recent Beyond Sterling Hall, Yale School of Medicine (YSM) Dean Nancy J. Brown, MD, shared that we are making changes to improve the effectiveness of the Office of Team Science. As part of these enhancements, today we are pleased to announce the appointment of Anna Arnal Estapé, PhD, as director of the Office of Team Science (OTS) effective May 1, 2025. In this role, Dr. Arnal Estapé will be responsible for supporting YSM’s scientific research mission by coordinating large multi-project grant applications, fostering collaborative research teams, managing pilot funding, advising on strategies, and overseeing grant submissions.
Dr. Arnal Estapé is a dedicated cancer biologist with a passion for science and research. She has held multiple academic and professional roles at Yale for the last 11 years, bringing extensive institutional knowledge that encompasses Yale’s research, facilities, culture, and grant opportunities. Most recently, she held the position of associate research scientist for the Department of Internal Medicine, Section of Medical Oncology, supporting the Yale Cancer Center (YCC). In this role, she led efforts to foster and support six translational science teams including three P50 SPOREs (lung, head and neck, and skin cancer), a Stand Up to Cancer team award, a new brain tumor SPORE team, and a nascent brain metastasis program.
In 2014, Dr. Arnal Estapé was recruited to the Department of Pathology at YSM as a postdoctoral associate. Over her seven-year tenure in this position, she made significant contributions to lung cancer and brain metastasis research. During her time at Yale, she also served in various professional roles supporting grant administration, participating in scientific directions, and piloting grant reviews. She has worked closely with pre-/post-award teams, Yale Ventures, Office of Development, and YCC Administration to identify grant opportunities and match suitable investigators to them.
One of Dr. Arnal Estapé's proudest accomplishments was to work with the YCC community engagement and outreach team to bridge partnerships between scientists and local communities. She successfully organized multiple scientific workshops, including ones focused on brain metastasis and lung cancer which helped facilitate collaborations and define strategic directions. Her efforts have significantly contributed to the Yale community's scientific growth and interdisciplinary prospects.
Dr. Arnal Estapé holds a PhD in Biomedicine from the Universitat de Barcelona and a bachelor’s degree in biology from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Spain.
Please join us in welcoming her to this new role.
Sincerely,
