Dr. Ash Alpert Named Bernard G. Forget Scholar

Ash B. Alpert, MD, MFA, ScM, instructor of medicine (medical oncology and hematology) and faculty affiliate of the humanities in medicine program, has been named the Bernard G. Forget Scholar for 2025-2026. The Forget Scholar award was started in 2015 in honor of Dr. Bernard Forget who was a renowned hematologist and scientist who made pioneering contributions to the study of red cells, hemoglobin, and the genetics of blood disorders. The Forget Scholar is awarded to a deserving individual to aid in their academic career in hematology by way of financial support.

Dr. Alpert's research and scholarship focuses on improving experiences and outcomes for transgender people with hematologic or oncologic disease, and they work with a community advisory board of transgender people diagnosed with cancer with whom they have conducted and published research and scholarship for over six years. They are also a poet and novelist.
