Dr. Bohdan Pomahac Receives American Association of Plastic Surgeons Award

Bohdan Pomahac, MD, Frank F. Kanthak Professor of Surgery (Plastics), and division chief of plastic & reconstructive surgery, has received a Clinical Research Achievement Award from the American Association of Plastic Surgeons (AAPS). This prestigious honor recognizes his significant contributions to advancing the field of plastic surgery through innovative research and clinical excellence.

Dr. Pomahac is a pioneer in the field of plastic surgery and his expertise adds to a growing portfolio of destination programs in the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Yale. These multidisciplinary programs include wound healing, craniofacial surgery, melanoma treatment, targeted muscle reinnervation, breast reconstruction, and cutting-edge research in machine learning and 3D printing.

The American Association of Plastic Surgeons aims to advance the science and art of plastic surgery through continued surgical education and research. In recognition of his exceptional expertise, Dr. Pomahac has also been appointed an AAPS Visiting Professor for 2025-2026. In this role, he has the opportunity to share his extensive knowledge on a range of topics with plastic surgery training programs nationwide.

Over the past eight years, Dr. Pomahac’s research has focused on perfusion technologies to maintain the viability of donated tissues used in transplants. Additionally, he has explored how plastic surgeons can restore motor function, sensation, and improve overall quality of life for patients using these surgical procedures.

Dr. Pomahac's recognition by the AAPS is a testament to his profound impact on the field of plastic surgery and his ongoing dedication to surgical innovation and patient care.
