Yale Cancer Center Researchers and Trainees Present at 2025 ASTRO Annual Meeting

The 67th Annual American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Meeting was held in San Francisco on September 27 – October 1st and featured cutting-edge research, advanced treatment techniques, and the latest innovations in cancer care from Yale Cancer Center physicians, scientists, and trainees. The ASTRO Meeting is the largest gathering of radiation oncology professionals, bringing together clinicians, researchers, and healthcare experts from around the world.

Throughout the meeting, Yale Cancer Center members presented oral, educational, and poster presentations, highlighting significant advances in cancer treatment and care driven by clinical trials and translational research from Smilow Cancer Hospital. Thomas Hayman, MD, PhD assistant professor of therapeutic radiology, moderated a session on precision medicine and resistance mechanisms, and Kevin Du, MD, PhD, associate professor of therapeutic radiology led an educational session focused on re-irradiation in GI malignancies.

Re-Irradiation in Gastrointestinal Malignancies: Finding the Goldilocks Zone of "Just Right" Personalized Treatment

During the poster sessions, Yale Radiation Oncology residents presented on topics including cardiac toxicity, boosting radiation therapy adherence, and personalized treatment of prostate cancer. Victor Lee, MD, recipient of the prestigious Clinical Resident Poster Award, presented new findings linking certain genomic alterations to brain metastases in non-small cell lung cancer.

Forty-three members of ASTRO were named Fellows of ASTRO, including Zhe (Jay) Chen, PhD, a professor of therapeutic radiology at Yale. FASTRO honors members who have given significant volunteer service to the Society and contributed to the field of radiation oncology in the areas of research, education, patient care or leadership.
