Biography

John Sheppard grew up in Downers Grove, Illinois and is a graduate of Downers Grove South High School. He studied biomedical engineering and statistics at Northwestern University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. John pursued research in neurophysiology and decision-making at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory as a recipient of the U.S. Defense Science & Engineering Graduate Fellowship, prior to completing medical school at UCLA on a full tuition David Geffen Medical Scholarship. John takes pride in caring for patients from all walks of life. He completed internship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center caring for underserved communities during the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic in Los Angeles before coming to Yale as an internal medicine resident. John cares for patients throughout Connecticut and Southern New England at Yale New Haven Hospital in addition to U.S. veterans receiving care at the West Haven VA Medical Center, where he also provides primary care to veterans facing homelessness at the Errera H-PACT Center. In a career spanning basic and clinical science, John has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and presented his work internationally. His current research interests are in cardiovascular imaging, prevention of coronary artery disease, quality of care, outcomes, and data science tools in cardiovascular medicine.
