I attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook where I obtained a B.S. in Pharmacology and was a member of the first graduating class in the Pharmacological Science Program. While attending Stony Brook I began basic science research in the area of lipid-dependent signaling. My work led to fellowships from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, National Sciences Foundations, and American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. After graduation I entered the Medical Scientist Training Program (M.D.-Ph.D) at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleson. I obtained my Ph.D. under the mentorship of Dr. Yusuf Hannun in the area of lipid biochemistry and molecular biology. This work led to two funded fellowships and ten publications of which five were first author. After graduation in 2005, I entered into an internship in medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital and completed a residency in Neurology in 2009. I then entered a fellowship in Neuro-Oncology at Yale-New Hospital under the mentorship of Dr. Joachim Baehring. I was appointed Clinical Instructor in Neurology, January 2011. I was promoted to Assistant Professor of Neurology, Division of Medical Neuro-Oncology July 2011. My faculty recruitment to the Division of Neuro-Oncology is part of a larger plan spear-headed by Yale-New Haven Hospital, the Smilow Cancer Center, and Department of Neurology to establish the Division of Medical Neuro-Oncology as a major referral center for patients with primary brain tumors. As part of my hiring, my role will be to develop the clinical trials program for the Division of Neuro-Oncology focusing on novel therapeutics.
