Biography
Dr. El-Guindy received his Ph.D. from the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University. He has been a member of the Yale faculty since 2011. The Guindy laboratory has a longstanding interest in the biology of human oncogenic herpesviruses namely, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV). Research in his laboratory is mainly focused on the following three areas of research: 1) the mechanisms that regulate expression of genes encoding viral structural proteins (e.g. capsid proteins), 2) The role of a long non-coding EBV RNA in promoting viral lytic replication and de novo infection, and 3) involvement of herpesviruses in the etiology and prognosis of lung cancer.
