  • 00:00My name is Tara Sanft.
  • 00:02I am the director of the survivorship clinic.
  • 00:07I am the chief Patient Experience
  • 00:09officer at Smilow Cancer Hospital and
  • 00:12I am also a breast medical oncologist.
  • 00:15I treat patients who have been diagnosed
  • 00:17with breast cancer and I see survivors
  • 00:20of multiple different disease types.
  • 00:22I feel like it's a privilege to
  • 00:23take care of patients who've been
  • 00:25diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • 00:27The relationship is very intimate and you
  • 00:29get to help someone through what may be
  • 00:33the most difficult time in their life.
  • 00:36That being said,
  • 00:37I feel like it is true that breast
  • 00:40cancer can be a very hopeful.
  • 00:43Diagnosis in that our cure rates and
  • 00:46our survival rates are incredibly high,
  • 00:48and it's a privilege to help
  • 00:51women walk through those.
  • 00:53Times in their life when they
  • 00:55may be most vulnerable or afraid.
  • 00:57First visits are a chance for
  • 00:58us to get to know each other.
  • 01:01I like to start by understanding
  • 01:02what the patient has been told
  • 01:04and what they're hoping to cover.
  • 01:06Drain the visit if they bring
  • 01:08a loved one with them,
  • 01:09it's often very helpful to have
  • 01:11a second pair of ears because the
  • 01:13conversations can get a little bit
  • 01:16technical and it can be hard to absorb
  • 01:18all of the information my research
  • 01:20focuses on healthy diet and exercise
  • 01:22during and after cancer treatment.
  • 01:23I have a study right now looking
  • 01:25at a healthy diet and exercise
  • 01:28intervention offered right after
  • 01:30diagnosis before starting chemotherapy.
  • 01:32We are understanding whether or not
  • 01:34this intervention helps women complete
  • 01:36chemotherapy in an easier fashion.
  • 01:38I would like my patients to know
  • 01:40that my passion is actually in
  • 01:42communication and healthcare and
  • 01:44that I'm committed to creating a
  • 01:47relationship with each and every
  • 01:49patient that I see and so is my team.
  • 01:52We are part of a multidisciplinary
  • 01:55team that provides comprehensive Breast
  • 01:57Cancer Care and survivorship care and
  • 01:59we look forward to meeting with each.
  • 02:02Individual and getting to know
  • 02:04each person as a human being.
