Zhe (Jay) Chen, PhD, has been elected a Fellow of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (FASTRO), a prestigious award given to recognize outstanding members for their leadership role in radiation oncology and major service to ASTRO. Chen will receive his FASTRO designation at an awards ceremony in San Francisco during ASTRO’s 67th Annual Meeting, being held September 27- October 1, 2025.
Chen is a professor of therapeutic radiology and provides clinical medical physics support for patients and is actively involved in teaching physics of radiation therapy to radiation oncology and medical physics residents. He also conducts original research towards better understanding and effective use of physics in radiation therapy. He has been a research investigator on five federal government supported research grants and was the principal investigator of a NIH R01 research grant investigating the effects of prostate edema on the treatment of early-stage prostate cancer using permanent interstitial brachytherapy.
The ASTRO Fellows program recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the society and to the field of radiation oncology through research, education, patient care, and service to the field. Since its inception in 2006, the FASTRO designation has been awarded to only 498 of ASTRO’s more than 10,000 members worldwide.
