Meet Dr. Ranjit Bindra

January 19, 2022
  • 00:00Hello, my name is Randy Bindra.
  • 00:02I'm a professor of therapeutic radiology
  • 00:04at the Yale School of Medicine.
  • 00:06My main focus is adult and
  • 00:07pediatric brain tumors.
  • 00:08A lot of our decisions to treat
  • 00:10what we treat our based on the
  • 00:12training that we've had and some
  • 00:14of our own personal experiences.
  • 00:15When I was a resident,
  • 00:17I was exposed to a number of patients,
  • 00:19specifically small children
  • 00:20that had brain tumors.
  • 00:22And it was those experiences that
  • 00:23shaped my interest in pursuing novel
  • 00:26treatment options for those patients.
  • 00:28I think it's important for patients to
  • 00:30know that when they come to see us,
  • 00:32that they're really treated like family.
  • 00:34We're available 24/7 really
  • 00:35working all the time as a team to
  • 00:37make sure that they get better
  • 00:39and get to where they need to be.
  • 00:41We often recommend that a patient
  • 00:43bring family members who can
  • 00:44take notes 'cause it can be very
  • 00:46difficult for that first console,
  • 00:47but we're often able to spend a
  • 00:49fair amount of time going through
  • 00:51all the details with the patient,
  • 00:52even if they can only come alone.
  • 00:54Our laboratory is focus on developing
  • 00:56novel therapeutics for brain tumors,
  • 00:57and in particular are very interested in
  • 00:59translating those therapeutics directly.
  • 01:01Into the clinic.
  • 01:02For the patients that we see here at Yale.
  • 01:04Our laboratory and clinical
  • 01:05practice are very,
  • 01:06very much intertwined in that we
  • 01:08love to translate work from the
  • 01:10bench to the bedside and from
  • 01:12the bedside to the bench.
  • 01:13I'm very,
  • 01:13very excited about what lies ahead
  • 01:15for brain tumor research and
  • 01:16novel therapeutics development.
  • 01:18We now understand so many things
  • 01:19that we didn't know before and one of
  • 01:22the cost of making great strides in
  • 01:24the survival for patients with brain tumors.
