In a span of three weeks, Akiko Iwasaki, PhD, was named to two prestigious Time100 lists. The first, published on April 17, named the world's 100 most influential people. The second, on May 2, specified the most influential people in health.

YSPH Professor Dr. Elizabeth B. Claus, MD, and the International Low-Grade Glioma (LGG) Registry that she leads are mentioned in this article, which provides resources for people who are impacted by a tumor diagnosis. Among the LGG resources are a map-design by YSPH student Wanjing Chen, 'MPH '24, (biostatistics), showing where registry participants reside. May is National Brain Tumor Awareness Month.

This year’s list includes 109 Yale Cancer Center (YCC) and Smilow Cancer Hospital (SCH) physicians, a 35% increase in “Top Doctors” for SCH and YCC from last year. YCC is Connecticut’s only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center.

Although dropping the age for screening to 40 years old is a good thing, the recommendations fall short in other ways, says Parisa Lotfi, MD, a Yale School of Medicine assistant professor of radiology and a radiologist and breast imager at Yale Cancer Center in New Haven, Connecticut. “Studies support annual screening to save the maximum number of lives. The task force fell short in that it is recommending mammography every two years,” says Dr. Lotfi.
